What genres are you considering and why?

Here is a brainstorm of the main genre's I was considering. After looking at the conventions they held, I started to consider how I would be able to meet those conventions without struggling greatly.
Action - This genre would make a fantastic trailer as it would be interesting and I could add so much in under 2 minutes. However, I realised that the resources such as CGI, exotic settings and weapons are unavailable and out of a budget so creating this to the best standard wouldn't be able to be successful.
Romance - As a female, it would be relatively easy to create a romantic film especially as my target audience would be females and some of my original ideas can be developed by other females. Romance can be stemmed into romance drama or romance comedy, which would still be fun and help me to apply more of narrative in the trailer. Another positive to this, is that most expectations of the romance film will be met with a happy ending to an attractive man as the love interest.
Sci-Fi - Somewhat similar to action in terms of resources. I considered this because it would be interesting for the audience and it would be fun playing around with sound effects however I could easily do that in a thriller which would be easier to create.
Thriller - Living up to the fear factor would be challenging as I want people to expect the unexpected. So creating new ideas would take a lot of my time however by creating my target audience now I could ask them questionnaires on what they would like to see.

The Fault in Our Stars Trailer Analysis

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ItBvH5J6ss

Firstly the trailer instantly adhere's to conventions due to it's feature of popular film production 20th century Fox. From this I know that the film includes famous actors, used a lot of money and will be popular.- Next a voice over is heard, which then creates a sense of a enigma to audiences asthey are intrigues as to who's talking. Not only does this reflecttypical media conventions but it is effective in developing a sense of mystery. Music is paired with the dialogue to develop the mood of the trailer which is informative and happy. The song then changes to a more romantic and passionate song which introduces themes of love in the trailer. - Another convention used is the use of synergy as the credits are the same fontas the best selling book that this trailer is about. the use of credits in a trailer are essential to develop information however in this trailer using the synergy reminds audiences about the best selling novel and excites them. This reminds audiences of story lineand because the book was already popular, the fan base was already wide. The typography is quite feminineand looks like handwriting so demographically the target audience is for young females, in school. - Lighting in the trailer starts of strong and and dark when the protaganist is by herself to signify fear but upon the arrival of other characters it brightens up especially until the protagonist introduces love interest is when the lighting starts to turn into a soft glow reflecting the mood of the plot, love is emphasized between these two characters. - Camera shots that are used in this trailer range from closeups and wide shots to outline the emotions andfeelings of characters and to establish setting. They travel to Amsterdam and have a shot of the bikes around the lake which is a significant image and will familiarize audiences who are aware of popular elements in Amsterdam. The various close ups are mostly of the protagonist and her love interest to show that their love and chemistry is the subjectof the film/suggesting the amount of love between characters.

A reflection on my AS year.

What were my strengths on my AS?
  •        I am content with my AS coursework, and I believe it went very well, as it was dynamic sustained and very creative. We represented everything we had hoped to achieve with a great end result. My choice of group were very operative in working as a team as we all formally met up to discuss our decisions and assign roles within each other making sure everything was up to date and effective in all departments of criteria needed to perfect our project.
  •          A strength outlined throughout the course was my sense of variety and creativity. I was intent on making my project  different to others, from the creativity of my blog to the filming and editing of my film opening, using different platforms to present my work.  My work was presented as organized, showing that I took my time to consider different ways I could present my work.
  •          In terms of what went well for me I was very pleased with my in depth research, whether it was looking at other blogs or products relating to our opening, I always made time to research thoroughly in order to improve our product.  We wanted to explore everything fully so that we could meet all criteria and form our own ideas about the project. Doing this helped me understand our task fully.

What could I have improved on?
  •         For improvement I believe I could have added more blog posts in all criteria. Research and Planning, Production and Pre-Production. Doing this would have made visible the exact steps we took to make our film possible. I should have recorded meetings to show the decisions and suggestions made by each person in thorough detail, to reveal why we did certain things and changed ideas to result in our final product.

  •          I wish I had taken time with some posts and used time effectively rather than doing fifty things at once. This was because at some points some were doing more than others, we had co-operation issues and even found dealing with other subjects difficult however hopefully with time taken into consideration and me taking on this project by myself I will be able to complete a time-table in when I can spend a thorough amount of time on this subject to ensure I do widely better than the year before.

Three targets for my A2 course:
  •         For this A2 year I hope to keep on time with deadlines and schedule what needs to be done and do this to the highest quality no matter how long it will take.
  • I would like to document all my decisions and why I chose to make them and show a visual change of my original idea to my current idea.
  •          I also would like to create a sustained blog and excellent final project to reflect the time and effort taken to go into the year.

GROUP PLAN

Who will I be working with?
I will be working by myself this year as I feel that I am able to secure a high grade if I am strict with myself and experiment with different ideas thoroughly, all though I worked in a group last year which was beneficial for me however, when in situations that required me working by myself I was able to produce effective high quality work.

What problems (if any) might this grouping cause?

I might struggle with the workload that will be piled on myself, and not be able to converse with various ideas I might have with other people about the decisions being made. There will be times where I struggle to handle.

How will this be overcome?

Any ideas I may have I can ask the target audience every other week on what I could improve on or what they would like to see. In advance I would prepare a timetable for when I study and complete work, to reduce the amount for myself.
